Albufeira is a Portuguese city and a municipality in the district of Faro, Algarve. Its name is Arabic (al-Buħayra = "the lagoon"). The city proper has a population of 13,646. In the summer and New Year's it's population expands to an estimated 300,000 as Albufeira is one of the leading tourist resorts of the region. Facilities include a marina, golf courses plus innumerable hotels, apartment blocks, restaurants and bars for the annual flood of visitors.

Six of the more than 150 hotels are; Grande Real Santa Eulália Resort & Hotel Spa 5*, Sheraton Algarve 5*, CS São Rafael Suite Hotel 5*, Aqua Pedra Dos Bicos 4*, Porto Bay Falésia 4* and Balaia Golf Village 3*.
